ESA stands for Emotional Support Animal.
These animals, typically dogs and cats, are a valuable source of comfort, aid
and support to their owners through affection, devoted companionship and a
multitude of other positive effects on the person’s well-being.
Many pet owners request ESA certification for their pet so they can be
exempted from certain housing and travel regulations. Having an ESA
certificate allows the person to live with their animal in most housing situations
since an ESA is not considered a pet. Depending on the type of certification, it
can also allow the person to travel with their ESA on commercial flights in the
US.
